The Role of Vitamin D
Vitamin D3 has emerged as an important addition to an anti-viral protocol to support the structure and function of the immune system.
Vitamin D is a fat-soluble vitamin that is naturally present in very few foods, added to others, and available as a dietary supplement. It is also produced endogenously when ultraviolet rays from sunlight strike the skin and trigger vitamin D synthesis. Vitamin D obtained from sun exposure, food, and supplements is biologically inert and must undergo two hydroxylations in the body for activation. The first occurs in the liver and converts vitamin D to 25-hydroxyvitamin D [25(OH)D], also known as calcidiol. The second occurs primarily in the kidney and forms the physiologically active 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D [1,25(OH)2D], also known as calcitriol.
Vitamin D promotes calcium absorption in the gut and maintains adequate serum calcium and phosphate concentrations to enable normal mineralization of bone and to prevent hypocalcemic tetany. It is also needed for bone growth and bone remodeling by osteoblasts and osteoclasts. Without sufficient vitamin D, bones can become thin, brittle, or misshapen. Vitamin D sufficiency prevents rickets in children and osteomalacia in adults. Together with calcium, vitamin D also helps protect older adults from osteoporosis.
Vitamin D has other roles in the body, including modulation of cell growth, neuromuscular and immune function, and reduction of inflammation. Many genes encoding proteins that regulate cell proliferation, differentiation, and apoptosis are modulated in part by vitamin D. Many cells have vitamin D receptors, and some convert 25(OH)D to 1,25(OH)2D.
Research has demonstrated many health benefits of vitamin D.*
But supplementation with vitamin D3 is not enough. Vitamin D3 needs vitamin K2 to direct calcium into bones.* Vitamin D3 and K2 both need magnesium to complete their job and to be fully metabolized.*
What Makes D3K2 Reset One of the Best Vitamin D3 and K2 Supplements?
D3-K2 ReSet contains 5,000iu of vitamin D3, 100mcg of Vitamin K2, and 11mg of RnA Powder, the catalyst that powers many of the Completement Formulas.
The K2 component in D3-K2 ReSet is K2-MK7, which is the most active form of K2 that works to increase bone density, decrease fracture risk, increase heart health by reducing artery calcification. It actively directs calcium to the bones and teeth and along with magnesium keeps calcium out of soft tissues. It has a positive effect on testosterone and fertility in men and conversely decreases androgens that create polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) in women. It helps in the production of insulin, suppresses genes that can promote cancer, and help exercise endurance by enhancing energy utilisation.
D3K2 ReSet is the best vitamin D3 and K2 supplement because it’s been formulated specifically to meet the daily demands for supplementing with vitamin D without using any animal by-products. Dr. Carolyn Dean recommends adequate supplementation of magnesium in concert with vitamin D supplementation.* Magnesium is so important in vitamin D metabolism that saturation levels of magnesium may be more effective in producing active vitamin D than high dose vitamin D.* In fact, magnesium is required in 8 crucial steps of vitamin D metabolism. *
How much D3K2ReSet Vitamin D supplement should I take?
Don’t know your current level? The D*calculator located at GrassrootHealth can suggest a daily vitamin D intake for individuals who enter only their weight and target vitamin D level. This calculation is an estimate based on the average intake required for people of the same bodyweight.
Dr. Dean strongly encourages everyone to have their Vitamin D levels tested, for a more accurate calculation of what supplement dose could help achieve a target level. However, not everyone has immediate access to their vitamin D level, so, this calculation is the next best option for an educated decision on how much to take on a daily basis.
Based on their testing, the GrassrootsHealth Scientific Panel recommends a level of 40-60 ng/mL (100-150 nmol/L).
Take one capsule per day. If you are exposed to a possible viral infection, take 2 per day. If infected with a virus, take 3-4 per day, depending on your blood levels.
